Coffee Table Book Chapter | Billboards

The Fair-Trade Cocoa campaign aims to bring attention to the unfair treatment of workers by large chocolate corporations. Before customers buy these products as treats for themselves or others, the public must be made aware of the controversies surrounding the chocolate industry. These corporations need to be held responsible for their actions. While companies like Hershey and Nestle have been the target of countless lawsuits, big businesses frequently find ways to hide legal problems and safeguard their image.

Project Goal: To disrupt the narrative big chocolate companies are hiding behind and force them to face their consequential actions. These assets educate the public which causes pressure on these companies and urges them to take effective steps towards alleviating the problem they've created.

Applications Used: Adobe Illustrator and InDesign

Thematic Treatment

The approach to this concept focuses on protecting kids from the widespread child labor on cocoa plantations. Along with powerful images of exploited children, the deliverables’ writing uses a satirical tone to convey the message. To draw in the observer, the design makes use of a color scheme influenced by the deep, vivid shades of cocoa beans. Blood textures are included to subtly evoke an association with chocolate. Bold, Sans-Serif typography is used to emphasize the seriousness of the issue. The deliverables vary in scale to effectively reach a broad audience.
